Pushback a Step In the Right Direction

Pushback = Criticism

Pushback, or criticism, as some call it plays a crucial role in the development stages of any assignment. When it comes to refining a proposed solution, receiving criticism allows us to identify strengths and weaknesses in our work.

Valuable Perspectives

Criticism provides perspectives that we may not have considered when we first create our outline. When you have your head down and you’re laser-focused, you often can become engrossed in your own ideas, which can lead to overlooking potential flaws. Criticism from others can reveal these flaws. As you create your work, a lot of thoughts and ideas float around in your mind. Sometimes, we can subconsciously connect two things together because we think of how they are related. But that information you think about and not write out can be a piece of information that is needed to connect the dots. It is always helpful to have someone else review your work with a set of new eyes.

Growth Mindset

A growth mindset is the understanding that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. Accepting criticism not only shows your desire to improve but also demonstrates your willingness to learn from others. Instead of reacting defensively, a person with a growth mindset will take the pushback as an opportunity to enhance their assignment.
